3D Printing Markets Totaled $3.47B in Q3 2024

Additive Manufacturing Research (AM Research) has published its third quarter (3Q) 2024 3D printing (3DP) data and forecast along with its Market Insights report, which it says distills and analyzes the data. AM Research’s quarterly 3DP/AM market data product tracks markets by vendor, print technology, geography and application (industry).

The data shows year-over-year growth of 9% and a small sequential increase in total market activity, from $3.45B in the second quarter of 2024 to $3.47B in Q3 2024. A continuing slowdown in hardware sales was offset by growth in AM services.

The metal AM market (consisting of 3D printers, materials and services) totaled $1.4B in Q3 2024. This represents 9.5% year-over-year growth despite an 8% decline in printer sales. The polymer AM market totaled $2.0B in Q3 2024, marking 9.5% year-over-year growth despite flat printer sales. The AM services market totaled $1.9B in Q3 2024, representative of 14% year-over-year growth.

“The financial backdrop has hurt hardware investment, but adoption also continues to be impacted by the complexity of AM design, validation and qualifications,” Dunham says. “Certain service providers should stand to benefit in the short to medium term. What hardware sales growth the market may achieve in the next two years, may therefore shift more to service providers.”
