The head of Optomec, Dave Ramahi, has passed away. On March 20, Optomec issued the following statement, “It is with intense sadness that we announce Dave Ramahi, president and chief executive officer of Optomec, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home in Boston, Massachusetts. Optomec’s board of directors, its management team and its employees extend their deepest sympathies to Dave’s family. He will be remembered for the personal compassion and boundless energy he brought to the company and its customers. He will be deeply missed by many across the industry.”
In the wake of his passing, the board of directors has appointed Mike Barry to be interim opresident and CEO. Barry previously served as Optomec’s vice president of Corporate Development and has been a member of Optomec’s board of directors for a number of years. Barry has 30 years’ experience in senior executive positions at a number of high-tech companies, including his role as founder and CEO of a software start-up, Rosetta Technologies. With Barry's knowledge of Optomec’s customers, operations, employees and culture, the company says he is apt to carry on Dave’s vision of bringing additive manufacturing to the production floor.
Ramahi joined Optomec in 2002 after leadership positions in the computer graphics industry. Under Ramahi’s leadership as CEO, Optomec transitioned from start-up mode, to sustained growth, to profitability to achieving Barry’s vision: becoming one of the few additive manufacturing companies that derives the majority of its revenue from production applications. Ramahi received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.).
Optomec is a privately-held supplier of additive manufacturing systems. Optomec’s Aerosol Jet Systems for printed electronics and LENS 3D Printers for metal component production and repair are used in both research and production settings in a variety of industries.
