Concepts NREC has unveiled the latest release of the Agile Engineering Design System, an integrated suite of software modules for computer-aided engineering (CAE) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) specialized for turbomachinery.

The CAE release includes enhanced functionality to design multi-stage radial turbines in RITAL and AxCent. Additionally, there is a new cavitation model to PUMPAL as well as a new design methodology based on “suction specific speed” (Nss), based on decades of work designing all classes of turbopumps in our engineering business.

The AXIAL solver for meanline design of axial turbines and compressors has been improved to run orders of magnitude faster when using real fluid thermodynamics and the same improvement can be seen in RITAL. In AxCent, we have made it much easier to import multi-stage axial compressor and turbine geometries and also to convert between the various parameterizations available in AxCent.

The latest version of MAX-PAC software for producing five-axis machining toolpaths includes new blade finishing options to produce step-overs yielding reduced cycle times. MAX-PAC v2023.1 also includes the ability to define coordinate systems and use these coordinate systems to transform the setup for machine simulation. In addition, the “Mixer” toolpaths introduced last year have been enhanced to reduce calculation time and support more roughing methods.

“We stay engaged with our installed customer base of hundreds of users to get feedback on what they need to design and manufacture state of the art turbomachinery and are always looking to add novel and cutting-edge capabilities to our software,” says Dr. Peter Weitzman, president of Agile Engineering Software. “Our customers wanted to explore the possible use of multi-stage radial turbines in various industrial processes and we are excited to see the new machines that will be developed once our users get their hands on this latest software revision.”

Version 2023.1 is available now for active Agile Product Support (APS) members to download. To schedule a live demo or request a trial license contact sales@conceptsnrec.com.
