Today's internet is a series of connected webpages written in HTML, viewed through a browser. The Metaverse, as envisioned by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, is a series of “connected virtual 3D worlds, described in USD, viewed through a simulation engine .. Just as the Internet connects websites, Omniverse connects 3D worlds.”
Omniverse, NVIDIA's Metaverse platform for housing digital twins, is set to become more accessible with the launch of NVIDIA Omniverse Cloud Services. The SaaS package combines cloud-hosted software services and infrastructure. The offering includes Omniverse Cloud Nucleus, DRIVE Sim, Isaac Sim, and Replicator for Synthetic Data Generation, available through the curated product catalog online at NVIDIA NGC.
“Omniverse Cloud services run on the Omniverse Cloud Computer, a computing system comprised of NVIDIA OVX for graphics and physics simulation, NVIDIA HGX for advanced AI workloads, and the NVIDIA Graphics Delivery Network (GDN), a global-scale distributed data center network for delivering high-performance, low-latency metaverse graphics at the edge,” according to the announcement.
Huang said, the latest version of the Omniverse comes with “a major update of its physics to process the kinematics of complex multipart objects.”
Carmaker RIMAC Group, manufacturing titan Siemens, and marketing firm WPP are among the early customers to sign on. During his GTC Fall keynote, Huang demonstrated the Rimac Nevera, a car configurator built in NVIDIA Omniverse.
A sign of deepening partnership between NVIDIA and Siemens, the Omniverse update includes JT Connect, allowing Siemens software users to bring data into Omniverse. “The JT Connector opens the industrial and manufacturing world to Omniverse,” said Huang. Tony Hemmelgarn, president and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries Software said, “We are excited to expand our partnership with NVIDIA, develop integrations between Siemens Xcelerator and Omniverse Cloud, and enable an industrial metaverse where companies can remotely connect their organizations and operate in real time across the complete product and production lifecycle.”
