JengaLabs is launching a filament drying accessory for 3D printers. According to the company, the Active Dryer features the essential functions of filament drying, in an easy-to-use form factor.

With temperature and humidity control, the Active Dryer has preset drying profiles, depending on the material being used, as well as a custom-set drying profile.

Most thermoplastic materials are vulnerable to hygroscopicity, or the absorbtion of moisture, which can damage 3D printing filament. This can leading to bubbling, cracking and print deformation or warping. Properly drying the nylon removes both the moisture on the surface of the plastic and bulk moisture inside the plastic, resulting in better adhesion and improved mechanical performance.

The Active Dryer leverages airflow circulation and PID control for more controlled drying than traditional 3D printer dyrers, the company says. This prevents overheating deformation and filament degradation.

The Active Dryer comes with a modular architecture that includes the Material Drying Unit (MDU) and the Material Management Unit (MMU).
